OK so it seems Sega has caught themselves in a tiny bit of controversy in regards to the recent sonic forces footage (or really the whole of the post-2010 era for that matter) with how people are tired of green hill zone and classic sonic...not to mention the "shitty music" and "awful art style" which I agree aren't very good to people like us. It seems more and more people are slowly, but surely, getting sick of sega's tricks and nostalgia pandering and I'm here to present a potential solution.
So you have classic sonic getting mania and modern fans are getting forces...but aren't we forgetting a certain group of fans? That's right, adventure fans (people who mainly like the adventure games over everything else). People such as I who very much to this day unironically like sonic adventure 1 and 2 are for some reason getting the cold shoulder in regards to content aimed at their sort of audience. Where's the multiple playable characters? Where's the new stories that aren't crammed full of jokes? Where's the balance of platforming and speed found in the adventure games? Where's the awesome rock themed music that many loved in past games? Why is this all gone?
While sega has no responsibility to cater to the demands of people like us, if they for some reason want to satisfy as many fans as possible, I think they should do the following...
1. Give classic fans more mania-esque titles
2. Give modern fans more games like sonic colors
3. Give adventure fans something that plays like sonic adventure (and wasn't rushed to death like 06)that has an "edgy" story, humans, multiple playable characters, a chao garden and some sense of coolness that we feel is sorely lacking in today's titles.
While there's certainly a lot more currently un-catered types of fans than just adventure fans, I'm pretty sure that deep down they'd love another sonic game that at least has some of the core elements of an adventure game. Multiple playable characters and a more series storyline are things that the fanbase has wanted for some time now and I think it'd be cool of sega to try pleasing them (even if other fans have already labeled them as "insatiable").
I know I'm asking for a lot (an entire game is nothing to just brush off) and that we may not necessarily be the majority of the fan base (though tbh I don't really know for sure)...but if I can be honest, the reason why I've not bought any sonic game since generations is due to the lack of things I mentioned previously and I felt the need to vent my frustrations that sega and other fans just don't seem to understand.
I don't know if this will make any difference but I just wanted to try shouting into the void to see if it'll bring about some good. That's all for now, bye!
